The YYSO is glad to announce our first Chamber Music ensembles. The Chamber ensembles consist of a string, woodwind, and brass ensmeble.

String Ensemble Coach: David Diehl

David Diehl has served as orchestra director for the Dallastown Area High School and Middle School for the past thirty plus years.  Mr. Diehl is currently the music director at the York First Church of the Brethren in York.  David serves as a section cellist with the York Symphony, and is currently a private cello instructor his studio serves eighteen private cello students.  Mr. Diehl serves as the cello sectional coach for the Harrisburg Youth and Jr. Youth Orchestras as well as the York Junior symphony.  Mr. Diehl is an audition judge for the cello section for the Harrisburg Youth Orchestra and York Junior symphony as well.  David is a conductor, cello masterclass coach and chamber music coach at the Messiah College Orchestra Summer Camp.  Mr. Diehl also serves as guest conductor for various orchestra festivals throughout PA.  

Substitute String Ensemble Coach: Dr. Adam P. Cordle

Dr. Adam Paul Cordle performs as violist of Duo590, Trio Alexander, and the Suara Quartet and in duo partnerships with violinist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport and soprano Susan Hochmiller. He teaches as an adjunct assistant professor at Gettysburg College and as a registered instructor with the Suzuki Association; he serves as a board member for the American Viola Society. Dr. Cordle earned the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester and the Bachelor of Music at Baldwin Wallace University.

Woodwind Ensemble Coach: Deborah Donovan

Debbie Norris Donovan received a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Arizona State University, where she served as a clarinetist with the Westwind Quintet, national winners of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition.  She auditioned for the Phoenix Symphony soon after graduation and began a ten-year position as Assistant Principal, Bass, and E flat Clarinet. In addition to the symphony position, Ms. Donovan played with the Flagstaff Festival Orchestra, Quintessence, the Phoenix Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and the Phoenix Symphony Woodwind Quintet.

 

Since relocating to York, PA, she has continued her symphonic playing with the York Symphony, the Maryland Symphony, the Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra, and the York Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Donovan earned a Master of Music Education from Boston University in 2009. She currently teaches music at York Country Day School and maintains an active private studio. She and her husband, Dan, are proud parents of their grown children, Jonathan and Jenny, and are excitedly anticipating the birth of their first grandchild!

Brass Ensemble Coach: Gregory Lauer

Gregory Lauer, a native of York, Pennsylvania, is the Director of Education at the Appell Center for Performing Arts and the Founder & Executive Director of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra and Hunt Valley Chorale. Mr. Lauer is the Principal Horn of the Hunt Valley Symphony Orchestra, Principal Horn of the Maryland Winds, and performs regularly as a member of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. Lauer studied horn performance at West Virginia University under the late Dr. Virginia Thompson, and holds a bachelors degree from Fairmont State University.

 

Mr. Lauer is frequently in demand as a music director, conductor, soloist, and judge throughout the East Coast.  Greg has worked with several regional youth symphonies including the York Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Lauer has served as music director and conductor for over 75 professional theatre productions across the United States and served on the faculty of West Virginia Wesleyan College.  Greg has also served for the past 24 years as Organist & Director of Music at several churches in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

 

As a horn player, Greg has had an extensive career performing with many orchestras including the Hunt Valley 

Symphony Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony, York Symphony, Fairmont Symphony, Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Maryland Winds, and many other ensembles across the United States. Greg’s musical gifts have given him opportunities to perform in London, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Hawaii as well as across the United States including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. An active freelancer, Greg also plays horn and piano with several regional theatre companies and was also on the Netflix series “House of Cards.” Greg’s private students have shown abundant success placing at local, regional, and national competitions.
