"The Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) features principal players and other members of The Philadelphia Orchestra and regularly includes some 250 students from throughout the U.S. and around the world. Participants choose one of six program options: Orchestra, Solo Performance, College Audition Preparation, Chamber Music Intensive, Piano, or Music Theatre & Opera. All programs are open to musicians ages 11 –19. There is a separate program, Music House, for college students and young professionals. All program options include: private lessons, master classes and faculty recitals with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra; solo performance opportunities; concerto competitions; an optional chamber music program; daily private practice; daily ensemble rehearsals; daily music course options including sight reading, ear training, music history, theory, composition, or conducting; and festival-ending grand finales. Students may attend PIMF at Bryn Mawr College for one, two, three, or four weeks."
The York Symphony Orchestra will hold its 19th Annual Summer Music Camp, “My Opus Magnum” at Logos Academy in York the week of July 8-12, 2019. The camp will offer youth musicians in grades 3 through 12 immersion in the composition process, learning about harmony, melody, counterpoint and rhythm as they compose their very own musical work.
The camp emphasizes a hands-on creative approach with group instruction on individual keyboards and computer software as well as individual coaching through the songwriting process. Students will be divided into two sessions: Beginning Composition and Advanced Composition. The cost is $110 per student.
Highly qualified instructors will offer level specific instruction and will creatively guide elementary to high school students through the process of composing a masterwork all their own.
Camp will conclude with a performance of each students composition and a pizza party. Each student will also receive two vouchers to a York Symphony Concert. Students of all levels of ability are encouraged to attend; however, it is suggested that they have some private lesson experience with the instrument of their choice.
