Frequently Asked Questions
Will we operate at the same capacity? Will there be smaller ensembles this year?
The YYSO typically serves 100 students a year. We plan to continue to accept the same number of students as previously, but we will split the ensemble into smaller groups of 50, in order to enforce COVID-19 guidelines. Students will be provided their group information upon acceptance into the YYSO.
Will there be a concert?
The YYSO may or may not have a traditional concert. The possibility of a traditional concert is contingent upon COVID-19 guidelines provided by the federal and state government. The YYSO has started to seek other alternatives including, live streaming and video and audio recording.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your mask, instrument, music stand, and music to all rehearsals. Brass and woodwinds will need their bell covers at each rehearsal.
Does my student need to wear a mask while playing?
String players are required to wear masks during the entire duration of the rehearsals.
What if my student forgets their face mask?
We will provide that student a mask. Our supplies are limited so we ask that you please remember to bring your mask to each rehearsal or YYSO related event.
How will you maintain social distancing?
Each student will be provided six square feet of distance to enforce social distance guidelines.
Will students need bell covers?
Yes, all brass players and woodwinds, except flutist, are expected to use a bell cover at all rehearsals. The YYSO will have extra bell covers in case a student forgets theirs.
What happens if someone tests positive for COVID-19?
The YYSO will first keep the anonymity of the student. We will work with the student and their family to contact trace. We will help inform all individuals who had come in contact with said student. Students who had come in contact will be asked to quarantine for at least 14 days, as well as the original student whom the case had originated from.
If I decide to stop sending my student to rehearsals am I able to get a refund?
Tuition is non-refundable. If the original plans are canceled, we will ensure that we will provide the students an opportunity the is equal or greater to the previous plan.
Is there a possibility that plans will change?
Yes. Due to COVID-19, we will consistently review our plans to ensure the safety of our students. We have other options like chamber ensembles, virtual, and virtual & in-person opportunities. We will select the best plan to pivot to depending on the pandemic guidelines at that time.
How will virtual auditions work?
A video and document detailing the audition process will be provided to the students. We ask that you follow those steps in order to complete your audition.
