About the Chamber Program

The YYSO offers a nomination-based chamber program for students who are in good standing with the orchestra. The program begins in the winter season, with weekly rehearsals that take place after full orchestra rehearsals, and culminates in two performances in the spring, including a final concert.

In addition to classical chamber music, students will also have the opportunity to premiere new works written by local composers. Compositions will all be debuted at the final concert in late spring. Students may get the opportunity to work directly with composers, depending on their availability, to ask questions and get some rare insight!

YYSO Chamber Director

Participation

Chamber nominations are selected by the Music Conductor/Director and reviewed by the Chamber Director at the end of the fall season. Students must be in good standing with the full orchestra to be eligible for consideration.

Students will be notified by email of their nomination and must accept their nomination within one week to join the program. Failure to notify the Chamber Director of acceptance will result in the student forfeiting their spot and another student will be extended the invitation instead.

Policies & Expectations

When rehearsing or performing with the YYSO Chamber Program, you are responsible for the standard YYSO expectations in addition to the following:

  1. Regularly attend chamber rehearsals and performances.

  2. Be respectful. This includes respecting the music, especially the locally composed pieces which the chamber program premieres.

  3. Communicate regularly with chamber coaches and Chamber Director regarding absences, scheduling additional rehearsals, and other concerns.

  4. Come prepared to rehearsal with all music and instrumentation.
